Traveling to Peru is not difficult but the trip will be much more productive if you follow a few tips.
The tourist visa you receive upon entry will normally allow you to stay in Peru for as long as 90 days
(there are also visas for 30-days and 60-days so you may need to request the one you require.)
This may be extended for a limited time by paying US$1 per day. Another means to lengthen your visit is by crossing the border into Ecuador, Bolivia, or Chile and receiving a new 90-day tourist visa when you return.
Airport Pickup
Some Safety Tips in Lima
available here
When you register in my classes, you can request me to contact you a personal driver pick you up when you arrive at Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima.
The school charges for this service.
You may also choose from one of the taxi agencies or shuttle buses that operate stands inside the airport. Reliable taxis charge approximately $25 and the shuttle service, called the "Urbanito", charges approximately $10.
This shuttle will drop you off at any one of a number of hotels.
We recommend that you DO NOT contract the independent taxis that wait outside the main doors.
If you wish to contract a personal driver, please write to my personal email so i can help you to contact a driver car to be sure and comfortable while be here
lucy_taype@hotmail.com and provide us with:
Name:
Address : (which you will stay in Lima)
Airline:
Flight number:
Date:
Time of arrival: (Use 24hr clock)
Then, wait me for confirmation.
Banks at the Airport
Local currency in Peru is the "Nuevo Sol". There are cash dispensers (ATMs) located in the main concourse that accept major credit cards, both in local currency and in U.S. dollars.
Money Exchanges at the Airport
There are some currency exchange offices located at the main concourse, in the international flight zone.
Health Care and Insurance
I recommend that you take a medical examination before leaving your country and ask your doctor about the necessary vaccinations. You should be protected against hepatitis, tetanus, polio, typhoid and yellow fever. If you are planning to go to the jungle, you should consider taking malaria pills.
What to Bring with You
In Lima, you won' t need anything heavier than a light jacket and sweater from July to December. If you will only be here between January and June, just the jacket will do.
It is easy to buy good quality, inexpensive clothing in Lima so pack light and buy the extras you need here. In Lima, you will feel most comfortable with walking shoes, but bring hiking boots if you want to take day trips to the mountains.
If you want to travel to the mountains, spring/autumn wear is required, except for high altitudes where you will need a winter coat. Bring rain gear if you want to travel to the jungle.
Other Items
Remember to pack photos of your home and family - these are great conversation starters - and some inexpensive gifts to give your new friends and host family.
Safety Tips in Lima
Miraflores is one of the safest areas of Lima, but there may be more theft on the street than you are used to. The chance are that you will NOT have any problems, but it does not hurt to take some of the same precautions that the locals do:
*Do not walk alone after dark unless you are on busy streets
*Leave valuables in your hotel
*Carry color photocopies of your documents
*Do not carry more money than you need
*Use small bills
*Trust your instincts when meeting new people
*When riding in taxis, sit on the back seat and negotiate the price before entering
Keep your bag/purse on the floor when riding in taxis and busses
Do not wear necklaces, bracelets, watches or anything that can be snatched
Keep a close eye on your belongings in crowded restaurants and cafes
*Always have change on hand for the telephone
*Men, when going out to night-spots, should be aware that some unscrupulous women are
known to secretly add sleeping pills to their partner’s drinks to facilitate a robbery. These women are popularly known as "peperas"
Take special care:
*At any of the beaches in Miraflores On the walk down to the beaches Using the bus system on the Via Expresa In desolate areas, especially at night Around the Surquillo market

LOCATION- PERU (District of Miraflores in Lima)
Miraflores is located in , the cultural and entertainment heart of Peru's capital, Lima.
This district of the city is a wonderful place to begin to learn about the unique history and culture of the country.
The main square of Miraflores, just a short walk from the school, is easy to find.
Exploring the dozens of nearby restaurants, cafes, stores, parks and hotels is an interesting introduction to this unique city.
To get you started we have designed a set of walking-tour maps of Miraflores for you to use.
There are hundreds of important historical sites to be seen in Lima, but that is only part of the experience.
Lima has many interesting activities going on all the time. EL SOL produces a weekly Lima Events Calendar to keep you informed.
District of Miraflores - Lima
The history of Miraflores is as old as the history of Peru itself.
For thousands of years, people have lived in this beautiful area where the cliffs overlook the Pacific Ocean.
Traces of ancient cultures, such as the Huaca Pucllana, can still be found nearby.

Shortly after Lima was founded in 1535, Spanish colonists began to populate the area, and named it San Miguel de Miraflores.
In the 1800's the area gained popularity as a beach resort and by the end of the century it had evolved into an exclusive residential neighborhood.
By the 1950's, Miraflores had become an important commercial center that rivaled downtown Lima.
The development threatened the district's original charm and, in the 1990's, the municipality began an aggressive campaign to recuperate green areas such as parks and medians to recapture the district's original beauty.
Take a look at our photo gallery of miraflores
Clima-lima
Lima is subject to two-well defined seasons
• Summer is from December through March; days are sunny and temperatures can reach 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit).
• Winter runs from July to September; skies are generally overcast and the temperature dips to 13 degrees Celsius (55 degrees Fahrenheit).
Whatever the time of year, it hardly ever rains.
Security
Miraflores is one of the safest areas of Lima, so with proper precautions - and some good common sense - personal security is not a problem.
Lima is the City of Kings and it is one of the most exciting places in South America. It boasts a rich cultural heritage and a modern urban mindset.
The city has many diverse faces; from the vividly painted colonial construction in the downtown core, to the makeshift houses built on the dry rolling hills of the outskirts, to the new shopping plazas and bank towers.
There is something for everyone in Lima. UNESCO ranks the architecture as a world heritage site, gourmets rate the cuisine as one of the finest in the world and the vibrant music and arts scene makes for an exciting nightlife.
There is always a museum to visit, an art gallery to see or a nightclub to go dancing.
In addition, Lima is the natural springboard for the rest of your travels; it is centrally located on the Pacific coast and has road, train and air links to the rest of Peru and South America.
Peru
Peru is one of the leading tourist destinations in South America and there is an
amazing variety of things for you to see and do while you are here.
You can visit the lost city of Machu Picchu or take a cruise down the Amazon River.
One weekend you can a stay in a small mountain village and the next visit a beautiful beach and watch the sunsets.
And that's just the beginning. You can spend a lifetime exploring this incredible country. Peru will mystify and amaze you.
